’Cats Shake Patriots, 19-11

By Jeremy S. Franklin The Rockbridge County High School girls lacrosse team secured its sixth consecutive win last Wednesday, recording a 19-11 victory over Patrick Henry in Roanoke.

Lola Mulitalo paced the Wildcats (7-1) with six goals, while Anna Nye tallied four goals and 14 draw controls. Maddie Dahl and Ruby Goodhart contributed three goals apiece for RC.

In the first half, the Wildcats struggled to shake the Patriots, who entered the game with a 5-0 record. But RC limited PH to just two goals after the break, pulling away to keep its winning streak intact.

“The PH team was very aggressive,” RC head coach Susan Nye said. “We started slow in the first half, but then in the second half our communication on defense was amazing – as were our smooth transitions.”

Nala Shearer led the Wildcats with four ground balls, and 10 different RC players picked up at least one ground ball. Emily Humphreys and Alyssa Hunter split time between the pipes, with Humphreys recording three saves and Hunter notching five stops. Coach Nye also praised the defensive effort of Libba Erskine, Tadara Cooper, Nadia Gaydos, Halina Homiak and Anna Nye for “fabulous one-on-one stops” against Patriot attackers.

RC was slated to play host to Franklin County on Monday. The Wildcats will return to Roanoke this evening to face Hidden Valley before playing at Christiansburg on Monday, starting at 5:30 p.m. on both nights.
