Born Nov. 13, 1980, in Lexington, she was the daughter of Octavia Nicely Starbuck of Lynchburg and William Richard “Rick” Cubbins of Crowley, Texas, and stepfather Greg Starbuck. In additional to her parents she is survived by her grandmothers, Catherine Sensabaugh Nicely of Lexington and Lucille Martin Cubbins of Roanoke; her daughters, Kaylee Noel and Madison Octavia Kingsley; step-grandparents Thomas and Ouida Starbuck of Maryland; aunts, uncles, cousins; her self-adopted sisters, Amee Williamson, Crystal Ward Frame, Wanda Garrett, Tina Severance, Karen Kresmsner Smith; and her little sister, Cheyenne Kingsley. She has left behind many, many friends in Virginia and Texas who grieve her loss.
She was preceded in death by her beloved great-grandparents, Katrina Bell and Carl A. Sensabaugh; and her beloved grandfathers, Nelson “Lindy” Nicely and William Richard “Dick” Cubbins.
She graduated from Menchville High School in Newport News, and received her Nursing RN diploma from Riverside School of Professional Nursing in Newport News.
Amber loved her daughters and family more than anything. She also loved animals, particularly stray and orphaned cats, dogs and ducks. During her lifetime she adopted and fostered, finding good homes for many animals giving them the love and attention they so desperately needed. For most of her life she collected all things dolphin-related, culminating in an exciting adventure swimming with the dolphins in 2016.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019, at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens, U.S. 60 West, Lexington, conducted by the Rev. Janet Hawkins. Family and friends will gather at the nearby VFW Post #1499 following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local Animal Shelter, your area’s Court Appointed Special Advocates for Neglected and Abused Children (CASA), or your local Women’s Shelter.

The family thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
