Bears Force Dumpster Closing

Dumpster diving by bears is causing a second closure of an unmanned Dumpster site in Rockbridge County.

The trash Dumpsters on U.S. 60 west of Lexington are being closed, effective May 16. The Board of Supervisors made the decision on this latest closure Monday after hearing that bears are frequently being seen going through the trash.

County residents who have been using the U.S. 60 West Dumpsters are advised to start using the staffed collection at 260 Greenhouse Road, next to the Rockbridge Regional Jail.

The trash Dumpsters near Zollmans Mill were closed previously because of bear sightings there.
