Blues Fall To James River In Regular Season Finale

Friday, Feb. 8 -- James River upended Parry McCluer 52-45 in high school boys basketball action in Buena Vista.

Walker Andrews poured in 27 points as the Knights (8-12) spoiled the regular season finale for the Fighting Blues (16-5). Zach Claytor led PM with 20 points and also grabbed nine rebounds, while Josh Chapman posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

The game was tight most of the way, with the lead changing hands six times during the second and third periods. PM trailed 42-41 with 6:21 remaining, but from there JR held the Blues scoreless until the final 12 seconds of regulation.

Brant Adams chipped in eight points for the Blues, while Isaac Armstrong added three assists. River Clonch tallied eight points and four assists for the Knights, and Patrick Clevenger also notched eight markers.

Prior to the game, PM honored its 8-man senior class: Adams, Armstrong, Chapman, Claytor, Lance Fitzgerald, Kaleb Floyd, Bech Garrett and Jason VanBrocklin.

PM will return to the floor in the semifinals of the Pioneer District Tournament at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The top-seeded Blues, who completed a 10-0 run through district play with a 69-53 win at Narrows on Wednesday, will take on the winner of a Monday quarterfinal matchup.
