Monday, May 15 -- William Byrd defeated the Rockbridge County High School boys soccer team 3-0 in a Blue Ridge District match in Lexington.

Christian Smith put the Terriers in front for good with his 16th-minute goal. Byrd would score twice in the second half, doubling its advantage four minutes in when Michael Woolfolk's long throw-in deflected in off of RC goalkeeper Zach Brown, and then icing the match on Jesse Settle's laser strike in the 76th minute.

Brown made 10 saves in goal for the Wildcats (3-9-0), while Zach Aylor recorded six stops in keeping a clean sheet for the Terriers. Byrd held a 25-13 advantage in shots and a slim 9-8 edge in corner kicks.

RC will take on Staunton River at home on Tuesday, with match time on Senior Night slated for approximately 7 p.m. The Wildcats and Terriers will meet again in Vinton on Thursday.
