With supporters and family members looking on, South River supervisor Ronnie Campbell formally declared his intention Wednesday morning to run for the Republican nomination for the 24th District seat in the House of Delegates.

The race is on for a successor to Del. Ben Cline, who was elected to Congress on Tuesday. The 24th District includes Rockbridge County, Lexington, Buena Vista, Bath County and parts of Augusta and Amherst counties. Republicans are holding a firehouse primary to select a nominee next Saturday, Nov. 17. Rockbridge County and Lexington Republicans will vote at the county administration building. Buena Vista Republicans will vote at the American Legion Hall.

A special election to fill the 24th District House of Delegates seat will be held Dec. 18, in time for the winner to take office when the General Assembly convenes for the 2019 session in January.
