Catherine Tyler, 52, of Goshen died Thanksgiving Day, at her farm, from complications of metastasized cancer.

Born Oct. 16, 1965, in Ithaca, N.Y., she was the daughter of James Tyler of Ithaca and Winona Tyler of Orlando.

Catherine (Cathy) was valedictorian of her high school class, received a full scholarship from Houghton College in New York, held a bachelor’s degree in French and, at the time of her death, was near completion of a master’s degree in library information services from the University of Tennessee.

Cathy was a talented guitar, violin and flute musician.  Her songwriting penned more than 450 copyrighted songs in her lifetime.  A lifelong lover of the natural world, she moved to Goshen from Hampton Rhodes in February 2011 to assume control of Aeyles Farm, LLC, an eco-organic farm on Big River Road engaged in supplying Bath County restaurants with produce. Concurrent with her farming activities, she fulfilled the duties of library assistant and eventual library manager of the Goshen Library until her illness required her resignation in January 2015.

She is survived by three siblings in Ithaca and by her longtime soul mate, Don Henke of Goshen.

Her grace, intelligence and attentive nature touched all those who knew her.

By her last request, she was buried at Aeyles Farm on a bluff overlooking the floodplain of the Calfpasture River.  She is and will be sorely missed.
