Drake Recognized At Forrestry Meeting

An anniversary dinner/meeting was recently held by the Rockbridge Area Forestry and wildlife Association.  Speakers for the evening were Dr. Ksenia Onufrieva and research specialist Andrea Hickman.  They spoke about the problem of gypsy moths in our forests and new research that is being done to combat them even to experimenting with drones for more precise application of treatments.

Also during the evening life time members of the Association were awarded pins indicating 29 years of attendance in the organization. These people were also instrumental in creating the Association and encouraging others to participate.  Pins were presented to Joe and Joann Perkins of Natural Bridge, Jim Perkins, and also Dorothy Perkins of Natural Bridge.  Also receiving pins were Todd Lowry, Don Firebaugh, Roy Swartz, Katherine Smith and Andy Leonard.

An award and other items were presented to Don Drake for starting the organization in 1988 and continuing to participate as both a member for many years and now as president.  He also encouraged the organization to participate in the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Scholarship Fund.
