Friday, Nov. 17 -- Second-seeded Galax defended its home turf with a 28-10 victory over sixth-seeded Parry McCluer High School in the Group 1 Region C football semifinals.

The Fighting Blues (5-7) took a 10-7 lead on Marcellius Dawson's 2-yard touchdown run with 3:19 to play in the first half. But the Maroon Tide (9-3) would regain the advantage just before the break, going on to score the final 21 points of the game.

Dawson finished with 213 yards on 24 carries for PM. Blake Brown rushed 34 times for 182 yards and a pair of scores for Galax, which advances to face No. 1 seed Narrows in the Region C championship next week.

Josh Fischer booted a 29-yard field goal to give the Blues a 3-0 lead with 9:08 to play in the opening frame. That score would hold until Caxton Vaught returned a punt 65 yards for a TD, putting Galax ahead 7-3 at the 4:38 mark of the second quarter.

Dawson then ripped off a 69-yard run on the Blues' next play from scrimmage. Two snaps later, he plowed into the end zone from two yards out to make it 10-7.

But the Maroon Tide responded, and Matt Evans' 9-yard touchdown pass to Kolby Barnes put the home side ahead for good at 14-10 with just 19 seconds remaining in the half.

Galax took full control of the contest with a 15-play, 83-yard march in the third quarter. Brown capped off that drive with a 6-yard rushing TD, and he would tack on the final points of the game on a 12-yard touchdown with just 1:49 to play.
