Horses Die In Raphine Barn Fire

June 7 - Firefighters responded to a barn fire at 3:30 this morning in Raphine in which seven horses are said to have perished.

Rockbridge County Fire and EMS Chief Nathan Ramsey said that a blaze at 13 Shawnee Hill Trail took the lives of the horses.

Responding to the scene were Raphine, South River, Rockbridge Baths, and Walkers Creek fire departments, Fairfield Rescue Squad, and from Augusta County, Middlebrook and Riverheads fire departments. Rockbridge County Fire Rescue also responded.

The cause is under investigation, Ramsey said.
