James River Tops PM Football, 30-14

The News-Gazette

Friday, Sept. 8 -- Parry McCluer High School's Marcellius Dawson rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns, and Lance Fitzgerald added 93 yards on 12 carries, but the Fighting Blues could not overcome four lost fumbles and could not slow down James River's high-octane offense, falling to 0-3 on the season with a 30-14 loss in Buchanan.

JR (2-1) ran just 37 plays in the contest, but 11 of them went for 10 yards or more -- including three plays of 50-plus yards as the Knights jumped out to an 18-0 halftime lead and cruised to their second victory of the season.

Quarterback Coulter Hodges tossed four TD passes for the hosts, completing 10-of-13 passes for 201 yards. Michael Hays added 106 rushing yards and a score on just 10 carries.

PM drove inside the JR 25-yard line three times early in the game, but did not find the end zone until Dawson's 11-yard TD run with 7:47 to play in the third quarter.

The Blues take next Friday off in preparation for their homecoming game against Nelson County on Sept. 22.
