The Natural Bridge State Park is planning is second annual Luminary Nights for December.

On Dec. 8, 9, 15 and 16 from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Cedar Creek Trail will be lined with luminaries and lit with festive colors.

The admission is $2 per person or $5 per family. Tickets can be purchased at the visitor center or the contact station.

On Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 16, the Lexington Carriage Company will offer carriage rides under the Natural Bridge. They will leave every 15 minutes from 5 until 6:30 p.m. with a limit of six people per ride. The cost is $8 per rider.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, the park will host the Children's Choir of Central Virginia during the luminary event. The choir will perform under the Natural Bridge from 6 until 6:30 p.m. and sing seasonal favorites. The Luminary Trail will close at 6:30 p.m.

Also in December, the Natural Bridge State Park will present its second annual Festival of Trees at the visitor center. The festival goes from Dec. 1 through Jan. 1 and can be viewed and voted on during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can get into the holiday spirit with trees decorated by area businesses and organizations and by donating to local causes. This year’s theme is Build a Home Build a Future, and donations will benefit both Rockbridge County Schools and the Rockbridge Area Habitat for Humanity.

Visitors can vote for their favorite tree by placing a donation of school supplies, non-perishable food or items that can be sold in the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store under their favorite tree or vote with a paper ballot.  Visit www.virginiastateparks.gov for a detailed list of donation items.

For more information about this event, or to register your business or organization to decorate a tree, call the park at 291-1330.
