PM’s Patterson Wins Second Straight District Singles Title

Thursday, May 16 – Parry McCluer High School senior tennis player Maggie Patterson cruised to her second consecutive Pioneer District singles title on Thursday evening at the Southern Virginia University courts in Buena Vista.

In the finals, Patterson defeated Narrows’ McKinna Huffman 6-0, 6-0. Patterson, who had a bye in the semifinals, used her powerful serve and kept Huffman on the run. The match included a comeback by Patterson from a 40-0 deficit in the third game of the second set. Patterson improved to 8-1 this season.

Next up Patterson will team up with senior Sophie Dryden in the district doubles tournament tomorrow, Friday, at SVU. The PM duo will face the winner of the 3 p.m. semifinal match between the Narrows and Bath County doubles teams. Patterson will play in the Region 1C singles tournament next week.
