PM Boys’ Relay Teams Place In Top Three At State

Wednesday, Feb. 27 – The Parry McCluer High School boys’ relay teams both finished in the top three to lead a number of strong performances by the Blues at the Class 1 and 2 state indoor track and field meet on Monday and Tuesday at Roanoke College’s Cregger Center.

The 4 X 400-meter relay team placed second in 3:39.77, just over a second behind winner Maggie Walker. PM’s team members were Cooper Braddy, Holden Kerr, Brenden Plogger and Caleb Workman. In the 4 X 800-meter relay, Dylan May teamed up with Braddy, Workman and Plogger to place third in 8:44.32. Both teams earned all-state honors by finishing in the top six.

In the mile, May placed seventh in 4:46.91, and teammate Trevor Tomlin followed in 12th in 5:03.32.

Colton Staton led the Blues’ throwers, placing seventh in the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 5 inches, a personal record by about a foot and a half. Teammate Zavery Wallace finished 13th with a throw of 39-8.

In the team standings, the Blues finished 12th of 39 scoring teams, tallying 18 points.

For the PM girls, Sophie Dryden placed ninth in the mile in 5:47.46 and came in 16th in the 1,000-meter run in 3:34.06. In the 55-meter hurdles, Valencia Harden placed 11th in the preliminaries in 10.19 seconds.

In the shot put, Grayson Shields placed 11th with a throw of 31-0.5.

The PM girls did not score any points to place in the team standings.
