PM Girls Hoops Takes Down Covington

Friday, Jan. 4 -- Parry McCluer High School sailed to a 60-14 victory over Covington in a Pioneer District girls basketball matchup in Buena Vista.

Madison Dunlap, who had reached the 1,000-point mark for her career in the Fighting Blues' previous game -- a 54-53 triumph over defending VHSL Class 2 champion Wise County Central in Emory, Va., on Dec. 28 -- tallied 15 points to lead PM (6-2, 3-0 Pioneer) past the Cougars (2-8, 1-2).

Katie Claytor added 10 points and five rebounds for the Blues, while Maggie Patterson and Hailey Huffman chipped in nine points apiece and Peyton Mohler doled out five assists. Cristi Persinger notched six points and seven boards for Covington.

The Blues return to the floor against Rockbridge County at home on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m., following junior varsity girls and boys contests between the two schools.
