Friday, March 1 -- The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team kept its pursuit of a third straight state championship alive with a 62-44 victory over Patrick Henry-Glade Spring in the VHSL Class 1 quarterfinals in Christiansburg.

Emma Camden scored 19 points to lead the Fighting Blues (24-4) back to the state semifinals, where PM will take on Honaker in Salem on Tuesday evening. Allison Coleman notched 12 points and four assists, while Madison Dunlap scored 10 points and pulled down a team-best six rebounds.

Breanna Yarber posted a double-double for the Rebels (24-4), tallying game-highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four blocks. But no other PH player came close to double figures, and the Blues goaded the Rebels into 32 turnovers in the game.

PM used an early 11-0 run, which featured seven points from Camden, to go up 16-4 with 2:46 left in the first period. The Blues led 21-8 at the end of the opening frame. The two teams then traded scores in the second quarter, with PM taking a 31-18 advantage into the break.

The Rebels began the third quarter with a 6-1 spurt, trimming the margin down to 32-24 on Payton Monahan's jumper with 6:11 to go. But the Blues countered with a 15-5 stretch, essentially putting the game out of reach when Hailey Huffman buried a 3-pointer to make it 47-29 with 1:12 left in the period. PH would not get any closer than a 13-point margin in the final stanza.

Peyton Mohler added eight points and four assists for the Blues, while Huffman and Makenna Smith chipped in five points apiece. Monahan finished with six points and three assists for the Rebels, while Natalie Strait scored five points and Ella Maiden collected six rebounds.

Tuesday's semifinal contest, featuring the Region 1C champion Blues against Region 1D winners Honaker, will take place at Roanoke College's Cregger Center at 7:45 p.m. Admission is $10.
