PM Girls Win Clash Of State Champs Over Central-Wise

Friday, Dec. 28 -- The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team won a battle of reigning state title holders in Emory, taking down Wise County Central 54-53 in the Emory & Henry Showcase tournament.

Madison Dunlap scored 17 points to pace the two-time defending VHSL Class 1 champion Fighting Blues (5-2). Peyton Mohler battled through foul trouble to record 11 points for PM, while Hailey Huffman added eight points and Emma Camden finished with seven.

Hannah Carter tallied a game-high 20 points for the Warriors (7-3), who won last year's Class 2 title and have claimed four of the past five crowns in that division. Brook Porter chipped in 11 points for Central-Wise, and Dee Cvetnich added eight markers.

PM returns to the court against Pioneer District rival Covington in Buena Vista on Friday, Jan. 4, beginning with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m.
