Jonathan Schwab

Friday, April 7 – The Rockbridge County High School baseball team cruised to a 21-5 win in five innings over Blue Ridge District foe William Fleming on Friday in Lexington, with the game ending early due to the 10-run mercy rule.

With every Wildcat playing on the cold and windy evening, RC (5-2 overall, 2-1 district) scored eight runs in the first inning, seven in the second and five in the third before adding a final run in the fourth.

Joshua Lawhorne hit a grand slam for RC in the second inning, the Wildcats’ fourth home run in three games.

Sharing the work on the mound for the Wildcats were starter Ty Bennett, Dustin Mays, Dalton Benson and Noah Ramsey.

RC held the Colonels scoreless until the fourth inning. WF scored one run in the fourth and capitalized on two RC errors in the fifth to score four more runs before the Wildcats made the final out.

The Wildcats were coming off a 13-5 district win at Northside on Wednesday.

RC will travel to Heritage High School in Lynchburg for a tournament on Monday and Tuesday, with the Wildcats taking on Group 4A school Bassett on Monday.
