RC Boys Soccer Team Falls To Harrisonburg On Senior Night

Friday, May 10 – After two consecutive victories this week, the Rockbridge County High School boys soccer team lost 4-0 by to a talented Harrisonburg team in Valley District action on Friday in Lexington.

The Blue Streaks showed their class from the opening kickoff. They capitalized on their first chance of the match when Onry Guifarro Hernandez scored in the fourth minute on a pass from Jonathan Pulido.

Harrisonburg dominated possession throughout the contest and held a 1-0 lead at half. The Wildcats (7-9-0 overall, 4-7-0 district) had one real scoring chance at the end of the first half, but Caleb Mayr put his shot into the outside netting.

In the second half, the ball lived in the RC defense’s half of the field, as Harrisonburg calmly passed the ball around and created good scoring chances.

Harrisonburg struck quickly again to start the second half as Micah Yutzy capitalized on a corner kick.

The Streaks put eight shots on goal in the second half. Two of their goals came from set pieces and another from a penalty kick.

RC’s goalie, Zach Brown, had an exceptional match and made 16 saves total.

The Wildcats, seeded fifth in the Valley District tournament, will play at fourth-seeded Turner Ashby on Monday at 7 p.m. Check back here for the result of that match.
