RC Girls End Season With District Quarterfinal Loss At Broadway

Saturday, Feb. 10 – The Rockbridge County High School girls basketball team concluded its season with a 96-25 loss at Broadway in the Valley District quarterfinals on Saturday night.

The Gobblers (9-14 overall, 6-6 district), who are the defending Group 3A state champions, advanced to the district semifinals, which will be at second-seeded Fort Defiance on Monday.

Sarah Wimer scored a school-record 41 points, sinking six 3-pointers for third-seeded Broadway, which raced to a 25-0 start. Wimer scored 27 points in the first half, surpassing her previous career high of 25 points, and watched from the sidelines for most of the fourth quarter. The previous single-game scoring record for Broadway was 34 points, set in 1984.

Taylor Hankins added 14 points for Broadway, and Lindsey White chipped in 12 points.

Emily Galford scored 17 points to lead sixth-seeded RC (4-19, 0-12), but no other Wildcat scored more than a basket. Contributing two points each were Lyla Chittum, Haley Cruze and Kirsten Vest.

The Wildcats ended the season on a 13-game losing streak.
