RC Girls Stun Fort In Valley District Semis

Monday, Feb. 11 -- Pulling off another upset, the Rockbridge County High School girls basketball team earned a 52-49 road win over Fort Defiance in the Valley District semifinals.

The sixth-seeded Wildcats (8-16), who had lost to the second-seeded Indians (13-9) in both regular-season games, overcame a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter and scored the final 12 points of the game.

Emily Galford led the Wildcats with 19 points, sinking three 3-pointers, include one in the final minute to give RC a 50-49 lead. Graceon Armstrong added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Jorden Dunn had 11 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks.

Kiersten Ransome led Fort with 18 points, sinking three 3-pointers. Brianna Allen added 12 points, and MaKayla Kershner chipped in 11.

The Wildcats will take on top seed Spotswood in the district championship game at Harrisonburg High School on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Admission is $6.

With Monday's win, the Wildcats qualified for next week's Region 3C tournament.
