Friday, May 11 -- Rockbridge County High School and Harrisonburg played to a thrilling 4-4 draw in Valley District girls soccer action on the Wildcats' Senior Night in Lexington.

Sophia Youngdahl, Molly Hellwig, Maria Vargas and Elsa Joyce scored inside the opening 19 minutes as RC (6-5-4, 2-5-4 Valley) built up a 4-0 lead. Hellwig and Jordyn Wright registered assists, and Vargas' goal came from the penalty spot after Joyce was fouled in the box.

But Meredith Goss pulled a goal back for the Blue Streaks shortly after the Wildcats' fourth, and Harrisonburg (5-6-1, 5-5-1) came racing back in the second half. Goss scored again to make it 4-2 in the 51st minute, and Audrey Knupp picked up a double -- including the equalizer on Mikaela O'Fallon's corner kick with just over four minutes remaining -- to complete the rally.

Neither team could break the deadlock in 10 minutes of extra time. RC then won a penalty shootout 3-0, with Aly Huntsman making two saves, although the spot kicks only count as a tiebreaker in the district standings.

The Wildcats will wrap up the regular season with a 4 p.m. home kickoff Monday against Waynesboro.
