RC Netters Complete Season Sweep of Alleghany With 3-0 Win

Thursday, Sept. 7 – The Rockbridge County High School volleyball team captured a 3-0 win over Alleghany to improve to 5-0 on Thursday in Lexington.


Completing a season sweep of the Mountaineers (1-5), the Wildcats overcame a late Alleghany rally to prevail 25-10, 25-17, 25-22. When the teams met at Alleghany on Aug. 22, RC won 3-0.


This time, RC controlled the first set with strong serving and net play and, jumping to a 14-4 lead and not letting up. The second set was tight early on, but the Wildcats broke away from an 8-8 tie by going on an 8-0 run. Alleghany cut the lead to five but would get no closer.


In the third set, the Mountaineers jumped to a 5-1 lead, but RC battled back to tie it at 8-8. RC’s Hannah Burch then had two of her four aces, but Alleghany responded, cutting the lead to 12-11. RC then went on a 4-0 run and finished strong, maintaining the lead for the rest of the match.


Jaydyn Clemmer led the Wildcats with eight kills and 14 digs, while Burch added five kills and 10 assists. Other RC leaders were Hannah Berlin with five kills, Jaden Harrison with 15 digs, Erika Paredes with 11 digs and three kills, Graceon Armstrong with four kills, and Keely Doyle with four kills and four solo blocks.


Alleghany’s leaders were Alivia Morgan with 10 kills, Sarah Rooklin with four digs, and Darcy Ross with three blocks.


The Wildcats will return to action with a home match on Monday against Amherst County before starting Valley District play at Fort Defiance on Tuesday. Both nights start with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m.
