Tuesday, May 14 – The Rockbridge County High School softball team got its offense going in a 10-0 win in six innings over Waynesboro in the Valley District quarterfinals on Tuesday in Lexington.

With the victory on the cool and windy evening, the third-seeded Wildcats (14-7) advanced to the district semifinals, which will take place at second-seeded Fort Defiance tomorrow, Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m.

RC, which had beaten Waynesboro (3-15) 1-0 and 13-3 during the regular season, took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Tuesday when Jaydyn Clemmer hit a double to bring home Madison Ruley. The Wildcats then racked up five runs in the third, and Clemmer belted a solo home run over the center field fence in the fourth to extend RC’s lead to 7-0. RC added two runs in the fifth and ended the game in the sixth to the 10-run mercy rule when Stephanie Rogers hit a fly ball to center field to drive in Savannah McDaniel.

Leading the Wildcats with two hits each were Clemmer, Ruley, McDaniel, Tristan Ayers and Madison Falls.

Thanks to their large lead, the Wildcats got their reserves into the game in the later innings.

On the mound for RC, Kennedy Clemmer pitched the first five innings, striking out six and allowing two hits and no walks. Harleigh Rogers then came to the mound and kept the Lady Giants hitless in the sixth. Pitching for Waynesboro was Logan O’Neill, striking out one and allowing 15 hits and no walks.
