RC Wrestlers Place Second At Regionals, Advance 10 To State Tourney

Saturday, Feb. 9 – The Rockbridge County High School wrestling team placed second of 13 teams at the Region 3C tournament on Saturday at Spotswood, and a school-record 10 Wildcats advanced to the Class 3 state tournament. Wrestlers advanced by placing in the top four in their weight classes. Last year, the Wildcats advanced seven wrestlers to the state tournament, which was the previous school record.

RC scored 174 points to finish behind defending champion Brookville (194). Turner Ashby (166), which had beaten RC for the Valley District title a week earlier, placed third. Valley District teams Spotswood (102) and Broadway (100) completed the top five.

Wildcat John Ryan Sedovy followed up his district title by winning the regional championship at 170-pounds.

RC wrestlers placing second were Kaden Wagner (132), Owen Hall (145), Hayes Tomlin (182) and Wendell Tyson (220). Finishing third for RC were Justin Clark (106), Seth Youngblood (152) and Anthony Marando (195). Wildcats placing fourth were Jacob Stearns (138) and Everette Huger (160).

The state tournament will be next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16, at the Salem Civic Center.
