Rock the Ribbon: PM Girls Trounce Jefferson Forest, 68-31
Saturday, Jan. 21 – Leading from start to finish, the Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team cruised to a 68-31 win over Jefferson Forest fourth annual Rock the Ribbon Roundball Shootout on Saturday at Rockbridge County High School.
The contest was the second game of the seven-game event, which is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
Taking on the larger Group 3A school, the Group 1A Fighting Blues (15-1) captured their 11th consecutive win, masterfully applying their defensive pressure to force 28 turnovers.
PM started slowly on offense, leading JF (12-2) 8-6 after the first quarter, but the Blues steadily picked up their scoring from that point on. At halftime, PM led 27-10, paced by Peyton Mohler’s 11 points. Mohler finished with a game-high 23 points, sinking two 3-pointers.
Fueled by a balanced scoring attack, hitting shots from inside and outside, the Blues extended their lead to 51-23 by the end of the third quarter. About two minutes into the fourth quarter, PM went up by 30 points, so the teams played with a running clock for the rest of the game.
Aside from Mohler, the Blues’ leading scorers were Madison Dunlap with 12 points and Makenna Smith and Hannah Craft with seven points each.
Madeline Davis and Cassidy Isenhour led the Cavaliers with eight points each, and Emily Deitrick chipped in seven.
