The annual Rockbridge County Livestock Show will be held this Friday and Saturday, July 21-22, in Barn 6 at the Virginia Horse Center.

This is a transitional year where the county livestock show and the Rockbridge Regional Fair are being held different weeks, the livestock show this weekend and the fair Sept 7-9.  The reason the livestock show will be held this year in July, said Extension agent Tom Stanley, was to accommodate graduating seniors who are headed off to college before September and for those young people who made livestock breeding and purchasing decisions based on a July show date before the date of the fair was changed.  "It is important to note there will still be livestock exhibits and shows at this year’s Rockbridge Regional Fair in September, just not the traditional show and sale we will hold in July," said Stanley.

In 2018, the Rockbridge County Livestock Show will be held the weekend after Labor Day in conjunction with the Rockbridge Regional Fair, he continued, and all the young stockmen will be able to plan the preparation of their livestock and their school schedules with the September show date in mind.

The market animals will be shown Friday morning starting at 9 and ending by the early afternoon, with the market animal auction taking place Friday evening starting at 6:30.  Breeding livestock competition will begin at 8:30 on Saturday morning, followed by the Clover Bud Youth Show (for ages 5-9) shortly after noon. The final event of the weekend, the Supreme Showmanship competition, is scheduled to start in the mid-afternoon Saturday.
