'Souper Bowl' Returns To W&L

Area residents are once again invited to address childhood hunger in the Rockbridge area one soup sample at a time.

The sixth annual “Souper Bowl” in Evans Dining Hall at Washington and Lee University will take place on Sunday, Jan. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with all proceeds going to the Campus Kitchen Backpack Program. Tickets will be available at the door at $10 for students and children and $15 for adults.

The event will feature soup creations, many using local ingredients, and desserts from local restaurants, caterers and bakeries. Attendees will taste test to the tune of Washington and Lee’s a capella groups.

Campus Kitchen’s Backpack Program, a hunger fighting tool that began in 2009, serves all area elementary schools and Head Start programs; providing over 700 children with a bag of nonperishable food items to take home with them for the weekend.

The goal for the 2018 Souper Bowl is to raise at least $10,000, enough to fund roughly three months of the program.
