Friday, Dec. 1, 4:30 p.m. - A Rockbridge County deputy detained two alleged armed robbers of a Waynesboro bank Friday at the Exxon Pit Stop at Timber Ridge within an hour of the crime.

Waynesboro police responded to First Bank & Trust, 851 Lew Dewitt Blvd., in Waynesboro on the report of an armed robbery just after 11 a.m. Friday. Witnesses provided detailed descriptions of two men suspected of the robbery, their van, license number, and direction of travel, Waynesboro Police Capt. Kelly Walker said. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects in a gray Toyota van  entering the westbound lanes of I-64.

"With that information, we knew we needed to throw a wider net," Walker said.

Law enforcement agencies from Rockbridge County and throughout the Shenandoah Valley were alerted to be on the lookout for the van, which was spotted within the hour at the Exxon station.

Money and a handgun reportedly used in the robbery were recovered, Walker said.

Identities of the two men have not yet been released. Arrests are imminent, possibly by the end of business day Friday, Walker said.
