Wildcats Edge Broadway In Baseball, 4-3

Tuesday, April 10 – Fending off a late rally, the Rockbridge County High School baseball team defeated Valley District rival Broadway 4-3 on Tuesday in Lexington.

Winning their first district contest and first close game of the season, the Wildcats (3-2 overall, 1-2 district) had a 4-1 lead going into the seventh inning, but the Gobblers then scored two runs. With Eric Watkins pitching to earn the save, the Wildcats made a groundout at first to end the game. RC starting pitcher Reeves Whitmore got the win, scattering hits and throwing key strikeouts.

Broadway took a 1-0 lead in the first before the Wildcats scored four unanswered runs, scattering them across the second, fourth and fifth innings.

The Wildcats will continue district action at Turner Ashby on Friday at 7 p.m.
