Tuesday, April 10 -- Rockbridge County High School defeated Broadway 5-3 in a Valley District boys soccer match in Lexington.

Matthew Roy posted two goals and one assist to lead the Wildcats (3-2, 1-2 Valley) to their first district win of the season. Ezra Sawyer notched a pair of second-half goals for the Gobblers.

Roy, John Elrod, Luke Jarrett and Daniel Cunningham scored in the first half as RC built up a 4-0 lead inside of 28 minutes. Adam Miller pulled a goal back for Broadway, trimming the lead to 4-1 before halftime.

Sawyer scored in the 45th minute to pull the Gobblers to within 4-2, but Roy answered almost immediately for the Wildcats. While Sawyer would complete his brace in the 74th minute, Zach Brown and Andy Schmidt made some key saves in goal for RC to prevent Broadway from narrowing the gap any further.

Brown finished with seven saves for the Wildcats, and Schmidt came on late to record two stops.

RC returns to action at Turner Ashby on Friday, beginning with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
