Saturday, May 19 -- The Rockbridge County High School girls lacrosse team rallied past E.C. Glass for a 10-9 overtime victory in the National Conference semifinals at The Fields in Buena Vista.

Alexis Coleman tied things up for the second-seeded Wildcats (9-6) with 8.8 seconds to play in regulation, and then buried the game-winner a mere 12 seconds into the sudden-victory extra session. She finished with five goals for RC, which advances to face top seed Jefferson Forest in the conference championship.

Sydney Morris posted five goals and Evie Budzyn tallied the other four markers for the third-seeded Hilltoppers (6-9), who never trailed in regulation. Glass jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage and led by four goals early in the second half.

The Hilltoppers assumed a 9-6 edge on Morris' fifth goal, which came with 12:02 to play. But Coleman scored just 41 seconds later, and Mary Wilson Grist pulled the 'Cats to within one at the 10:32 mark.

The score remained stuck at 9-8 until the closing moments. The Hilltoppers won possession with about a minute to play and seemed poised to run out the clock. However, RC forced a turnover behind its own goal circle, leading to a coast-to-coast sequence that saw Coleman bag the equalizing goal.

Tupu Mulitalo won the draw control to open overtime, leading to Coleman's game-winning score just 12 seconds in.

Grist and Maelyn Eversole tallied two goals apiece for the Wildcats, while Jordan Dameron chipped in one goal and one assist and Colleen Carrington made seven saves. Maggie Kicklighter recorded eight stops in goal for Glass.

RC will travel to Jefferson Forest for the conference final on Tuesday, with game time to be announced. The Cavaliers beat the Wildcats 10-8 in Forest during the regular-season meeting on April 16.
