James Marion Floyd III, 61, of Amherst died Tuesday, July 27, 2010.
Born July 17, 1949, in Lexington, he was a son of James Marion Floyd Jr. and Gladys Previance Thacker Floyd. He served in the U. S. Navy and was a dedicated member of Victory Baptist Church. Mr. Floyd retired in 2000 after 18 years as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for May Brothers Excavating.
Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Floyd; one son, James M. Floyd IV of Buena Vista; one brother, Buster Lee Hardy of Buena Vista; three sisters, Ginger Ferguson of Portsmouth, Doris Briggs of Martinsville and Ninita Ramsey of Buena Vista; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Victory Baptist Church by the Rev. Dean Staton. Burial will follow in Hughes Family Cemetery, Amherst. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Victory Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Bolling, Grose and Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
