March 6, 2025 Editor, the News-Gazette, Three years ago, shortly after Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, Rep. Ben Cline posted the following message: “It is with great pride to let you know that because of my unwavering support of American ally Ukraine and my rebuke of Russia’s atrocities against the people there, I have been officially sanctioned by Russia. I wear this as a badge of honor and ... am proud that I am on Putin’s ‘Stop List.’” And now? Now that his chosen president has abandoned Ukraine in deference to a tyrannical Putin (the one with the “Stop List”)? Has Cline’s “unwavering support” wavered? We wouldn’t know, because he and so many other GOP members of Congress are cowering in the shadows, afraid to speak up against our own tyrannical leader.
