Several crews responded to a late-night fire in Goshen last week that resulted in the “total loss” of a single-wide trailer. While the frame of the trailer is still standing, much of the structure was destroyed or damaged by the fire and the efforts to fight it.
“They’re lucky the trailer’s even standing for the amount of stuff that was in it and around it,” Goshen Fire Chief Mike Jolly told The News-Gazette on Tuesday.
The Goshen Fire Department was the first crew on scene after the call came in at 12:30 a.m. on the morning of March 4.
The fire had begun after a generator in a garage built next to the trailer had backfired, according to Nathan Ramsey, Rockbridge County fire/rescue chief. The Goshen firefighters were joined by fire crews from Rockbridge Baths, Craigsville and Millboro, as well as Rockbridge County Fire and Rescue. Goshen’s First Aid Crew also responded to the scene. Crews were able to save the garage from burning down.
“We had a really good response from everybody given the hour of it,” Jolly said.
No injuries were reported from the fire. The two people residing in the trailer were put in contact with the Red Cross for assistance, said Ramsey.
