March 12, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: I am speaking directly to those of you who have daughters in school playing sports or believing that the girls’ locker or bathroom are sacrosanct and that they believe they will have privacy as they go about their business. This goes for college as well as high school and even into some middle schools.
As everyone knows, the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. has signed an executive order stating that there are only two genders and that girls’ sports teams participation will be available to only those girls born with an XX chromosome. So, if you were born with an XY chromosome you will not be allowed to play on a girls’ sports team.
To me this is the logical conclusion from reading Title IX. It was designed to require schools to make more funds and teams and scholarships available for girls. So when a school allows a boy to compete against the girls, not only is he taking a spot that was reserved for females, including a scholarship, but has the capacity of injuring a girl. That detail has reared its ugly head several times in the last couple of years.
The Republicans in Congress have passed legislation banning boys/men from playing on girls/ women’s sports teams. This commonsense law was passed with zero Democrats (including Abigail Spanberger). It is now in the Senate and is being filibustered by the Democrats. This includes our two commonwealth senators, Kaine and Warner. Obviously, they are lying when they say they are for women. No one who cares about girls’ health and safety should ever vote against this bill.
So, please, for the safety of our young girls and women playing sports, remember this when we vote for governor this year and for senator next year. That injured girl might just be your daughter or niece or granddaughter. Can you ever forgive yourself if she is injured because you voted for the Democrat? GREG FRICKERT Rockbridge Baths
