First Training Session This Monday
Boxerwood Nature Center and Woodland Garden will host two training sessions this spring for those interested in helping this local nonprofit further connect with members of the public.
Designed for volunteers who may have limited time and/or physical capacity, the program seeks adults who can help represent Boxerwood and its earth care mission through occasional weekend shifts as garden greeters or community tabletop hosts.
The seated, outdoor opportunities are typically 1.5 hours in length, with volunteers selecting dates and times that suit them.
“Whether it’s once a week or just a couple of times a season there’s a place for you with Boxerwood Ambassadors,” said a spokesperson, noting volunteers are welcome to bring a friend with them for their shift.
During the spring training sessions, volunteers will learn the basics of welcoming visitors to the garden and/or representing Boxerwood as tabletop hosts at community events. No prior knowledge or experience is required.
Potential Ambassadors may attend either session on Monday, March 31, 1 to 2 p.m., or Saturday, May 3, 10 to 11 a.m. Both sessions, which share the same content and format, will take place at the Boxerwood Lodge, 963 Ross Road, Lexington, with refreshments served.
During the training session, Boxerwood staff will provide an overview of Boxerwood Education Association (BEA) and how this 25-year old nonprofit presently carries out its awardwinning mission. Attendees will learn more about the woodland garden, upcoming events, and perks of the Ambassadors program. The session concludes with an insider Q&A with Boxerwood Executive Director Emily Kohl. Immediately following the one-hour session Boxerwood staff will also offer Ambassadors a tour of the garden, which is optional.
