RRL Part Of Statewide Pilot Program
Rockbridge Regional Library hosted a high school graduation ceremony in February for Teanesha Morris, who recently completed her studies to earn her high school diploma and career certificate from Career Online High School, an online platform for individuals who are at least 20 years old who have successfully completed eighth grade, and who wish to earn their high school diploma.
As part of a pilot program, Rockbridge Regional Library is one of three libraries in Virginia offering scholarships for adults to earn a nationally accredited high school diploma online through Career Online High School. Currently, three other students are enrolled through RRL; Morris is the first graduate.
Friends and family from as far away as Florida, Georgia and central and coastal regions of Virginia, joined Morris at the library to celebrate her accomplishment. The Rev. McKinley Williams from First Baptist Church in Lexington opened the program with an invocation. Rockbridge Regional Library staff member and member of Rockbridge Choral Society, Dan Pezzoni, sang a rendition of “Morning Has Broken,” an old hymn about new beginnings, and Dr. Harper Donahoe, career educator and chairman of RRL board of trustees, delivered an inspirational address.
Rockbridge County School Board chair Kathy Burant attended the ceremony and spoke personally to Morris and her family to offer a warm welcome and best wishes.
Morris accepted her diploma and expressed how her faith had served to help her overcome obstacles to completing her education. She specifically thanked her academic advocate and tutor, Marisa Parker, as well as family members and others who had guided her along the way.
