March 24, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: It’s not that 400 of us throughout Rockbridge County want to spend our Saturdays in late March walking the roads and highways picking up the trash that relatively few citizens throw out of their trucks and cars. We all have many things we would rather do.
But because we care about our beautiful county, we sign up, don the orange vests and climb up banks, slip down gullies, bend and snap up the Bud Lite, Ultra, and Busch beer debris. Also an endless variety of trash from fast food packaging to old tires and washing machines.
It is hard work, kind of dangerous and mind boggling that people we probably know are OK with having others pick up after them, many of us with gray hair. We do it because we care. Be nice if everybody did. KATIE McNEIL Rockbridge County
