March 20, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: As a board member of Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC), I invite our community to the 17th annual Bull & Oyster Fest on April 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Virginia Horse Center. This beloved event is more than a celebration — it’s RAHC’s largest fundraiser, supporting our mission to provide quality, affordable health care for all.
Last year, RAHC provided $1.1 million in charitable care. With 70% of our patients relying on Medicaid, and funding uncertainties ahead, community support is more critical than ever.
The Bull & Oyster Fest is a fantastic way to support this mission while enjoying delicious beef brisket, fresh oysters, and tasty sides from Lexington Catering Company. Local bluegrass favorite Gary Ruley and Mule Train will provide live entertainment, and attendees can try their luck with our prize board featuring overnight stays, gift certificates, and unique excursions.
Funds raised help sustain vital programs like our school-based health centers and mobile dental and medical clinics, which provide access to health care directly to those who need it most. While ticket sales contribute, the generosity of our sponsors ensures that proceeds directly support patient care.
Since its founding, RAHC has seen a 201% increase in patients served, with 67% being low-income individuals. The need for accessible health care continues to grow, making events like the Bull & Oyster Fest essential.
Join us on April 5 for great food, music, and company while supporting this essential community resource. Tickets are $70 for adults and $25 for children, available at www.rockahc.org. BILL CRAIG Board member, Rockbridge Area Health Center
