Lexington Students Compete In Va. Chess Championships

On Saturday, March 8, and Sunday, March 9, 12 elementary and middle school students from the Lexington City Schools competed in the 2025 Virginia Scholastic Chess Championships in Charlottesville.

Seven students from Waddell participated as a team in the elementary school section of the tournament, taking fourth place in the K-5 under 1000 division.

Five students from Lylburn Downing participated in the middle school section of the tournament. Led by Alex Eastwood and Gibson Fox (each of whom earned 2.5 points), the team took fifth place in the K-8 under 1200 division.
