Stockman’s Club Competes In Judging Contest At Tech

On Sunday, March 16, 14 members of the Rockbridge County 4-H Stockman’s Club traveled to Blacksburg to compete at Virginia Tech’s Block & Bridle Livestock Judging Competition.

The club is lead and coached by Rosalea Potter and members meet monthly to explore agricultural in and around the county.

This was the club’s first time competing as both individuals and on teams. Competitors had to evaluate and judge eight classes of livestock, including beef cattle, sheep, goats and swine, as well as answer detailed questions about the animals.

Senior competitors were Angie McDonald and Ellie McDonald.

In the junior division, 34 teams competed and Rockbridge took home three overall placements.

Second place overall went to: Olivia Repair, Riley Potter, Andi Potter and Ellie Engleman. Tenth place overall went to Stockton Brown, Layton Lilly, Wyatt Leslie and Nate Repair, while 13th place overall went to Foster Brown, Oliver Engleman, Walt Leslie and Sawyer Leslie.
