Shull New Investigator At Sheriff’s Office

Rockbridge County Sheriff Tony McFaddin recently announced that Richard Shull has been promoted to investigator with the sheriff’s office.

He was first hired by the RCSO about a year ago as a school resource officer for Central Elementary.

Shull, a 1997 graduate of Alleghany County High School, is currently enrolled at Mountain Gateway Community College to receive a degree in criminal justice.

He began his career in law enforcement in 2003 as a deputy sheriff for the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office where he held many titles such as courthouse security deputy, jail deputy, patrol deputy, patrol supervisor, member of the Emergency Response Team and K9 handler.

In 2018 he was assigned to the investigations division and was subsequently promoted to sergeant, lieutenant and then captain of the investigations division where he worked with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task force to investigate numerous cases of child pornography.

Shull has received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) DUI Enforcement award and Lifesaving Award and was a special deputy United States marshal.

Shull is an active member of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (SOVA-ICAC), a certified Department of Criminal Justice Services general instructor, asset seizure coordinator, school resource officer, speed measurement instructor, field training officer, a graduate of the Virginia Forensic Science Academy and holds numerous investigative certifications.

He also served on Alleghany County School Board from 2020 to 2023, is a member and past president of the Jackson River Kiwanis Club, and a volunteer swim official with the Alleghany Highlands YMCA. He lives with his wife Tiffany and twin children.
