April 9, 1975

Winds gusting up to 65 miles per hour damaged many roofs, blew down several farm buildings, and toppled trees in the area. A wall of the new Kroger store, under construction just north of Lexington, was completely flattened by two separate wind gusts. - Alice Rabe, chairman of the Lexington School Board, announced her candidacy for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. - Area residents were alerted by the Lexington Police Department to watch their wallets after someone used a counterfeit $20 bill to pay for groceries at Kroger.

April 13, 2005

Martha Lou and H.E. “Buddy” Derrick closed the College Town Shop and put the building up for sale. Established 80 years before as a men’s wear store, it was Lexington’s oldest retail shop. -A Canadian truck driver was found guilty on charges of reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter. A couple from out of town found themselves on the Interstate by accident while looking for a motel and were rear-ended by the tractortrailer, resulting in one fatality. - Longtime Lexington educator Nancy Littlepage died at the age of 82. Though she primarily taught English, she began each class with a brief history lesson.
