Nelson Thurman Miller, 78, of Fairfield died Feb. 28

Nelson Thurman Miller, 78, of Fairfield died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at UVA Transitional Care Hospital.

Born Sept. 8, 1944, in Rockbridge County, he was a son of Mary Isabel Thompson and the late Francis Lauderdale Miller.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donell Madrid; brother, Franklin E. Ingram; and stepfather Charles E. Ingram.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Serene Keyna Miller; three sons, Nelson Miller II, Timothy Hostetter and Francis Miller; two daughters, Marie Hostetter and Jamie Miller; three stepchildren, Amanda Miller, Keyna Gates and John Gates; and three brothers, Johnny H. Ingram, Steve W. Ingram and Marvin W. Ingram.

Nelson was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
