RC Wrestlers Second At LCA

Led by senior co-captain Brice Hall’s individual title, the Rockbridge County High School wrestling team placed second of 24 teams at the Liberty Christian Academy Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Lynchburg.

The Wildcats scored 168.5 points, trailing only tournament champion Granby’s 202.5. Host LCA (164.5) placed third, while Washington (W.Va.) (163.5) and Cosby (151) rounded out the top five.

Hall (175-pounds) pinned his way to the finals, where he took down Jefferson Forest’s Ethan Boone in 1:54. For the season, Hall improved to 19-1.

Seven Wildcats earned medals by placing in the top six. Placing third were freshman Hudson Ryan (113) and junior Je’san Henderson (215). RC g rapplers p lacing f ourth were junior Ryan Maxwell (120) and senior co-captains Zeke Mohr (150) and Thomas Maxwell (157). Junior Aidan Williams (144) placed sixth.

At 113, Ryan beat his first two opponents before he was pinned by James River’s Brayden Forbes, the eventual champion, in the semifinals. Ryan battled his way back to the third-place bout, where he defeated Waynesboro’s Dylan Divver in a 15-3 major decision.

Henderson was pinned in the quarterfinals at 215 by LCA’s Toby Schoffstall, the eventual champion, but he fought his way back to the third-place bout, where he pinned Blacksburg’s Abdullah Mastrogiovan in 3:26.

The Wildcats will travel today for a Valley District trimeet at Turner Ashby, with Broadway also competing, starting at 5:30 p.m. They are looking at adding a home quad meet on Saturday at 10 a.m., but they’re waiting on confirmation from the opponents.
