Danielle Crawford, a 2019 Rockbridge County High School graduate who is a junior thrower for the Wingate University (North Carolina) women’s track and field team, defended her shot put title at the South Atlantic Conference indoor track and field championship meet on Feb. 26 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Throwing at the JDL Fast Track, Crawford, who had not competed since January due to an injury, won with a throw of 13.4 meters (43 feet, 11.5 inches) for the Division II school. Last year, Crawford won with a toss of 14 meters (45 feet, 11.25 inches).
At this year’s meet, Crawford helped the Wingate women win the South Athletic Conference title.
During her senior year at RC, Crawford won the Class 3 state indoor shot put championship and placed second in both the shot put and discus at the state outdoor meet. She holds RC’s school records in both events.
