Council Approves Budget Changes

The Lexington City Council unanimously approved an amendment to the 2022-23 fiscal year budget at its March 2 meeting.

The city received an Industrial Revitalization Fund Planning Grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development in the amount of $55,496 for the 114 McLaughlin Street Redevelopment Project, which was added to the city’s state categorical aid budget and appropriated under the community development line item. Also appropriated for city projects was $250,000 from the $693023 surplus from the 2021-22 budget, which was appropriated to the city’s capital projects fund for curb and gutter repairs in the Diamond Hill area. An additional $9,004 was appropriated from the city’s revenue in interest earnings to cover the cost of the special election held in January for House District 24.

The amendment also included a request from the Lexington School Board for a total of $86,000 from its reserve balance for purchasing various equipment for both schools – including a milk cooler and camera system for Lylburn Downing Middle School and a new sound system for Waddell Elementary School – as well as for classroom painting for Waddell.
