Rockbridge County High School’s student art show opened at Earth, Fire, and Spirit Pottery gallery in downtown Lexington on March 3.
In total, there are around 80 student artworks that are being featured in the show, and most of them come from the Studio Art and Design classes, as well artworks from the Ceramics and Photography classes.
In the show, there are various pieces displayed that are made with different mediums, including graphite, tempera, ink, metal, watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media, along with ceramics and photography pieces.
Senior Anna Wilson, who recently placed in the 2022 Drexel Photography High School Contest and the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for her photography, shared how her photography pieces entered the gallery.
“It is really neat because our work is published in a local place that people could get it if they want to, and it is really neat that I have film photography being [shown] there. I am just glad that we are able to show our work to the community,” said Wilson.
Sophomore Kaylee Hagenbuch shared the process of how her creative work got into the student art gallery.
“My ceramic piece ‘Bee Happy’ is a decorative mask with a flower and bees on it,” said Hagenbuch. “The assignment was to put together two different ideas to create one mask, and I am excited for my art work to be shown because we have the opportunity to share our artwork and people get to come see them all. My piece took me a while to create, so I am glad that it is being shown and people can come appreciate the different artworks in the gallery.”
All artwork will be on display until the end of March, and there will be opportunities to purchase pieces that are being shown. For each piece that is purchased, 30% of the money goes back to the school, while the rest of the money goes to the artist.
