The Rockbridge Baths Community Organization will present a potluck meal and a presentation on “The History of Rockbridge Baths” on Sunday, March 19, at 1 p.m. at the Rockbridge Baths firehouse.
Those attending are invited to bring a salad, dessert or side dish to share. Chicken will be provided.
Long-time residents of Rockbridge Baths are asked to bring memories and photos of the community that they can share and memorabilia that they can show.
The program will include slides and a talk by Ben Nicely, who describes the early history of Rockbridge Baths in this way: “Rockbridge Baths was settled early by the Scotch-Irish and Germans, who were seeking land to call their own, beginning in the late 1730s. Though bypassed by major roads and the railroad it was able to establish itself as an important hub of northwest Rockbridge County. Settlers found the land bountiful, water plentiful, and the climate perfect for raising not only crops and livestock but families as well. For people seeking a slice of heaven they found it in Rockbridge Baths.”
The event has been planned and organized by Lucy Hayes and Paula Zimmerman.
- Residents of the Rockbridge Baths area will meet at the firehouse at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, to participate in the Rockbridge Baths trash clean-up. Vests and trash bags will be provided. They will be cleaning sections of Maury River Road, Walkers Creek Road, East Field Road, Back Draft Road, McCurdy Lane, Mast Circle, and (if there are enough volunteers) Turkey Hill Road and Maple Swamp Road. This service is organized by the Rockbridge Area Conservation Council and RBCO.
